10/20 Bellagio with AA HU OOP against Brad Booth
I just came back to the table. Brad Booth is now sitting in the 9 seat, and I'm in the 1. A few young guys to my right start telling me about how he's been playing really weird, making huge overbets all in about 5 times so far without showdown. I don't know much about him aside from his reputation as a really strong NL player and my impression of what that means.
I have ~$4500 to start in this hand, Brad covers by far. Two limpers to me, I pop it to $180 with A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Brad calls, rest fold. The first thought that comes to my mind is "I need to get tricky here or he's going to try to move me off this hand and I don't want to play a huge pot facing a tough decision with an overpair when I'm kind of deep". Flop Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] , and I check. He checks behind. Turn 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] and I lead out $320, he calls. River 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] plans for this river and all considerations? Thanks |

Bet 750-1000 and call shove.
BTW, I like how you played it. |

Re: 10/20 Bellagio with AA HU OOP against Brad Booth
Did he make the call cold or was he one of the limpers?
I hate the check on the flop.. I don't think you fear much, but given what you said and what others said prior to the hand I would check call here as I don't think you would get a call from much aside from AQ on the end (TT, JJ?). Protect yourself against a big hand and call his steal bet if there is one. Although if you didn't give the little blurb about his play and your thoughts about playing vs him, I would bet the river. Maybe too passive.. but my thoughts given the details. -trplthrt |

Re: 10/20 Bellagio with AA HU OOP against Brad Booth
I like a bet that looks like a bluff so pot it or close to it against a good player like himself. On that board he has to think you would protect any sort of made hand and bet the flop. If he raises fold. c\c is good too but I think its only good if u 100% he had a draw on turn and has nothing on river.

Re: 10/20 Bellagio with AA HU OOP against Brad Booth
I agree with the earlier poster you played the hand fine, I would prob make a pot size bet on the river and give strong consideration to calling a raise. A check call here is fine because of your comment about how he is playing. The reason being this is LOW limit poker for him, he plays among the biggest nl cash games around and 10-20 is just a fun game for him.
I have seem this a few times with big name pro's who sit in a low game and just over bet the pot time after time. 5k makes no difference to them so you can get great value for your hands if you want to gamble a bit. |
