Default I can\'t believe Saddam is still alive. Huge Mistake.

This must be the worst misake the US made during the war.
We try to give Saddam a "fair trial" and look where that got us.

I how many less people would have died had we just executed him?

I guess I'll play.

I don't know. Where did it get us? Is the claim that the aftermath of the Iraq War would have transpired much differently (better, from the perspective of US interests in Iraq? -- better for the Iraqi people? Both?) if we just summarily executed him? If that's what your claiming, could you expound on why you think that is? Because I suspect for many of us, it's not that obvious why that necessarily would be the case -- and if something is that obvious, it typically isn't worth discussing.

Is it possible there was some breaking news about Saddam or the situation in Iraq I'm unaware of?

And lastly, can we put something in 'The Constitution' sticky about starting such opaque threads? Because I'm not even sure what the OP is trying to discuss here.

A large number of people involved with prosecuting Saddam have been assassinated. They've gone through, what, 3 judges now? I'm all for due process, but if there was ever a case for summary execution, this was it.

How many less people would have died if we had just left him in power?

I guess if you want to overlook going over there in the first place, not sending enough troops to correctly occupy the country, listening to Rumsfield and Cheney, lying or misleading the voting public, not finding weapons of mass destruction, etc. then you've got a strong case.

Obvioulsy hte best way to "liberate a nation" and bring the American values of freedom and justice is to start off by going against everything America stands for and executing a world leader without a trial. Brilliant.

I agree with that. But that's not the discussion.
