Default Proper Etiquette For Maintaining A Full Stack In Live NL?

Like most online NL players I like to keep my stack from dipping too far below the max buyin. I was wondering how often it would be appropriate to top off your stack when playing live? Thanks.

(I tried a search and couldn't find anything on this, but if it has already been posted "ad nauseum" please point me in the right direction and feel free to give me the "treatment")

Some rooms have odd (idiotic) rules for when you can rebuy. Most though will let you add whenever you're below the max buyin, up to the ammount of the max buyin. As for etiquette; most low limit NL players wouldn't know it if it smacked them in the face.

There is no such etiquette rule for this. If anything most players would want you to keep topping off.

If cash plays, just keep adding bills and taking chips off the table. Then use those chips in your pocket to tip and pay time charge when you win a pot and get above max, that way your stack doesn't dwindle.

Most places you can always buy back to bring yourself up to the cap. When in doubt, ask.

Where NL1/2 buyins are capped at $200, I usually buy in for $240 and put $40 in my pocket. When I hit $180 or less, I pull reds out and top it up to $200. Where they allow $300 or more in the baby NL game, I don't bother with this. I feel fine buying in for $300 and playing until it's down to $200. Then I'll add a $100 bill or a whole stack of red. $200 feels ok playing NL1/2, but $150 feels short to me, so it's just my preference to keep the stack at about $200 or more.

I usually reload when my stack gets cut in half or close to it.

When I play with a capped buy in I will often have chips in my pocket and be at the max (or higher of course, if I win), every single hand, just adding white chips / adding reds / subtracting whites etc.
