Default Three Rivers Part III

Hand 3 Opponent in this hand has been playing squeaky tight. Doug recently referred to him as the fold-bot in seat 2. So basically I have no idea how he plays postflop.

Horrible player limps in MP, folded to me I raise K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] in the CO. SB(tight guy) calls, BB calls.

Flop is Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Checked to me, I bet, SB checkraises, others fold and I call.

Turn is J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. SB bets, I raise, he calls.

River is Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. SB bets, I...?

Cry and call. Getting 11:1, I pay off here since I can't be 92% sure he has a Q if "I have no idea how he plays postflop."

Yeah he has a Q i'd say. You showed a lot of strength in the hand and he donks here. Gotta be a fold because i expect you to fold to my river donk here NEVER esp. in live poker.

He has AQ and you've priced yourself into a call.

You have no idea how he plays postflop so call. Heh, I guess i'm a calling station, my answer to all 3 hands is call.

it's really tough to say what's right or wrong w/out being there.

in my experience, tighter players are *generally* less likely to c/r draws and such on boards that have likely hit the preflop raiser (they hate getting 3bet or popped on the turn and end up paying more to hit their draw).

one of the transistions I've made since playing stricly live is to start folding these rivers that I would have instacalled online.

I used to call here, now I fold.

This is the closest out of the 3 to a fold and I would do it he has a queen here pretty much always.

The pot's pretty big here. The call is probably close to 0 ev (maybe he whiffed with KTs and donked the river as a last stab), it's good for metagame, and perhaps most importantly, I think playing hero on the river in decent mid-limit games is a mistake.

bringing metagame into this discussion is kinda pointless. it's not like they have a long standing history or villain is a decent 2p2er that would sway justin's decision in either direction. and its not like villain knows that hero is folding a fullhouse to his river donk. why couldn't justin have a whiffed flush draw himself? you really think the rest of the table is putting justin on a range and noticing that he's folding to this river donk in order to use it against him later on? come on, this isn't a tough highstakes game where all your opponents are thinking players. for the most part, these guys are total donks.

yeah yeah yeah, you're getting 11 to 1. but so what? villain is super-tight preflop. in my experience, these are not the kind of guys to make desperation bluffs on the river w/ a busted draw after getting popped on the turn.

paying off rivers in midlimit games when it's blatantly obvious that you're beat is also a mistake.

This one's tough, since the line is really either a way-out-of-line bluff or a Q and rarely anything inbetween. But...
You gotta call. Its a live player, so he could just be bored or annoyed or who-the-hell-knows. But regardless, folding would be just too off-tempo.

I think I've become a calling station. Did you actually fold any of these hands?
