Default Apple Cider Season

Go get some while it lasts, which should be until around mid-to-late november (from around late september to late november is when it's at its best). MAKE SURE IT HAS NOT BEEN PASTEURIZED for god's sake, or partially pasteurized. Pasteurization distroys the taste, and you might as well go to the supermarket and get some apple juice off the shelf (Yuck!).

Huell Howser went to this place named Oak Glen California, visiting the different places that sell cider up there. Mom's Country Orchards sells it unpasteurized, and has to be kept refrigerated. It will begin to ferment after about two weeks; first turning hard (applejack) at some point, then eventually becoming apple cider vinegar. I have no idea how long it takes to ferment into hard cider, maybe somebody could let me know, Zee?

1 gallon cider, 1/2 gallon apple juice, add 10 or 15 cloves and 3 sticks cinnamon, boil for a while to get the flavors in the cider, put in serving container after it's cool leaving cloves and cinnamon behind but adding 2 extra cinnamon sticks in the serving container. Add 1 bottle everclear.

We have friends that have a old school crank cider press. They live out in the middle of nowhere and we'd go out, pick apples up on a hill, go back down make cider and generally cary on and sometines a Sauna would be involved.

Good times.

Oh wow, I'm SO jealous. I just went apple picking this weekend. Got some apple cider donuts and had some pie (while I was in line waiting for donuts)

I love all things apples. I also like to make kielbasa in Woodchuck amber cider. It's really good.
