Pre-flop: min-raising over two limpers and a raiser when in mp is about as bad as you can play JJ before the flop. Especially in what I presume is a low buy-in.

I've got RSI so perhaps you can tell me why.

Why is it gross?

I wanted to show strength, so I reraised. It is a large re-raise, I was hoping to take this down preflop.

It's NOT a large reraise. It's a small reraise. You've doubled the bet size and made what is barely more than a minimum raise. Your reraise should be to between 300-400, if you make one at all.

I'm no genius, but IMHO this raise will take it down preflop approximately 0% of the time...

Do you have any reads on the original raiser? This would make a difference in my mind b/w calling and raising.

Why do you want to show strength? Is this going to help you win chips, which is your objective?

It is a large re-raise.

It isn't a large reraise. It is the minimum reraise. It encourages all the players behind to come in. All the players already in will look at the odds and call. In a low buy-in, you're more or less guaranteeing that you see a flop four way and the strength of your jacks shrinks. If you see an overcard flop, chances are the overcard will be out there because people play high cards.

I was hoping to take this down preflop.

Why? You want to get heads up with the guy who raised and then play a pot with him in position. Taking it down pre-flop is fine, but it's not the optimal result.

I am confused.

BB is t20, MP1 raised to t100 (5xBB), I reraised to t200 (10xBB).

Am I reading correct that I need to raise pre-flop almost 20-30xBB? It seems like a HUGE raise in proportion to the BB.

Btw, I bet t600 on the flop and took this hand down uncontested.

Oh, in that case you played it great.

Edit: can someone else take over here - I really have got RSI.

Once there's already a raise in there, you need to be thinking 3-4 times that raise for your re-raise. Otherwise, as others have said, you're getting callers. At least one guy (the original rasier) is coming with you.

The flop bet is a bit big for my liking, I would have come out with 400-500. I'm folding to a check-raise, and if called I'm check/folding the turn*. Basically I'm trying to avoid building a pot. If I get to the river, I reassess.

*unless it helps me.
