I really want to showdown my QQ on a board like this. I checked the turn in case I was up against a set and to control the pot size. When he checked behind on the turn, I truly believed that my hand was best on the river so I made that "value" bet. Apparently, it wasn't. Should I have just check-called the river? Reads: Opponent had high VPIP of 41 or something, but I haven't seem him do any thing crazy. Seemed to be calling preflop raises somewhat often. |

Well, he could have been on the heart draw and is bluffing, he might have had 97 or 99 and has just out-rivered you, or he could have slowplayed with 46 or a set, but I really doubt that last one.
That was your risk when you decided to control the pot size and check the turn. I think I call this about 1/3 of the time. |

I think you played it fine, fold that river though

I've seen MakeItRain make a lot of retarded/gutsy plays, so I'm inclined to call this more often than usual.

[/ QUOTE ] I agree with this sediment but I think you're behind him too often here to make this call. Versus MakeItRain I think you should bet turn in this hand to make it easier to play for yourself. Although it defines your hand and lets him play better, it also gives you a simpler decision. You played the hand fine. I like betting much better than check/call, because he's so likely to play a draw fast, early on, and most of the hands he'll have here are looking for showdown, although he could have definitely taken a free card with a draw.
I wouldn't expect to see a set here very often unless it's 99, since he'd be trying to get his stack in earlier, most of the time, since you're a little deep. 68 got there. You beat a busted flush draw, and small pairs that realized they're no good after you bet the river, and decided to bluff you out. I would definitely call this, some portion of the time, but a fold is probably better. |

I agree with the poster below me on this one. I have seen make it rain make make big bluffs before, and i think the only hand he has here that beats you is 99.

How dumb is firing a 3/4 to pot-sized bet on the turn?

I'm wondering if I should have fired another one on the turn....can't see him calling with a draw on the turn if I bet something like $350 |
