Default Pole Position

I have a 100 dollar bet with my roomate that I can beat his high score of 57890 on Pole Position (we are playing with like a joystick thing and weird controls attatched to the VCR). I am having trouble in the sharp turn- i.e., when to let off gas (I haven't been at all) and when I downshift (I sometimes find myself doing this twice in the turn- which is no good).

Also, anyone know the optimal speed to switch from Lo to Hi? I always thought it was around 100 mph...

I have all night to do this, I will be up for the next six hours if need be. Help ASAP, consult your friends if they pwned Pole Position back in the day.

This is what I needed, thank you.

Update: I just completed all four laps and scored 57840. I need to beat 57890. I am very, very close. He is sleeping. When I beat it, I will rejoice, wake his ass up, and notify you all. Thanks.

I just beat it. 58030. My roomate makes 5 dollars an hour working at the front desk of our dorm. I made ~100 for most of the last two or three months.

I just [censored] pounced on him to wake up. I didn't get much of a reaction. He mumbles and [censored] at night, you can't get a word out of him.

He gets two chances when he wakes up to recapture the record, those are the terms of the bet. I am confident he will slip up at least once each time, plus I will talk a lot of crap to mess with his mind. I just won 100 dollars from someone who barely makes that per paycheck.

It would be a sad thing if it weren't for the fact he talks a sick amount of crap, and I didn't suspect that he has already stolen money from my poker accounts... but that is a different story for a different time.
