Default Poker tournies in Cherokee Casino in Tulsa, OK

Hi,

I got a mailing from the Cherokee Casino in Tulsa OK, talking about a bunch of tournies ($100-$1000) going on from Oct 30th until Nov 12th. From the website it appears to have a 36 table poker room.

I live in Austin and did a mapquest and it appears to be about a 8 hour drive. I also looked up flights and there are some reasonably priced ones for the 3rd-6th. I did call looking at prices for hotels and the resort is 99/99/69 for the 3 nights. Staying at the Inn would only be 42/42/42.

So is anyone planning on playing this, or has anyone ever played at this Casino? I figured I would give the poker room a call and find out the tourney structures to see if it is going to be a crapshoot and what they expect for # of players.

Ken

This is my home casino, but I've never played in any of the tourneys. The Inn is a cheap motel next door they bought and converted for overflow from the resort. It is on the other end of the parking lot away from the casino. If the money isn't an issue I'd stay at the resort. It is sure to be much nicer and more convient. Let me know if I can answer anything else.

What kind of games (and limits) do they run normally outside of tournies?

First of all if you use the promotional code Kath1006, you can get rooms at the resort itself for 42 a night if you do it soon... I play there almost every weekend so i'll try and answer all your questions.

I will be playing quite a few of these events... They held a very similar series of events during June and had a pretty nice turnout... (I wasn't 21 at the time and couldn't play in tournies cuz they ID, but did play cash games) I would say for the 330 NL events on the weekend, I'd expect 200-400 entrants, If you're playing the main event, I would say something like 200-300... The smaller events I think probably have 30 min. structures, so not a total crapshoot.... the play in these tends to vary from weak-tight to loose passive... Pretty much terrible tourney players all around.

Never... U might be able to get a 10-20 game going during this tourney series, but that would even be tough... Other than that only 4-8 all the time.

As I said for limit games, u might get 10-20 but prob not, As far as NL, there is 1-2 100/200 min max... 2/5 200 min, no cap which plays very deep on occasion, great game during tourneys... 5/10 500 min no cap, which tends to be pretty nitty... also during the last time, we got 10/20 going a couple times, I've also seen 10/25 before, these tend to be fantastic loose games...

Also, as far as PLO, they have 1/2, 2/5, 5/10, and 5-10-25 no cap that goes during tournies... Fantastic games... Best games to play to make money if you have the stomach...

Oops i guess u meant at other times... well usually 1/2nl and 4/8 most of the time w/ 2/5nl going at night and 5/10 PLO on the weekends...

They also have a separate area for sats which are ongoing throughout the whole thing, and probably softer than anything else, just not really worth my time...

Hope I was helpful...

I called the casino and did ask about the Kath1006 rates. I was given 99 for the resort on the friday/saturday. Are you saying it should have been 42?

Thanks for the info,
Ken
