NLHTAP Preflop Raise Sizes vs SSNL
It is recommended in NLHTAP to vary your preflop raise sizes depending on your hand and your current situation. SSNL players say to "always raise 4xBB + 1 per limper". In the book the authors seem to say that this is incorrect strategy.
Please explain. |

Re: NLHTAP Preflop Raise Sizes vs SSNL
There have been many threads about this before. 4+1 is easy to do and prevents your opponent from getting a read on you, varying your raise may be worth a fraction of more +EV maybe. If you do it badly it's (e.g. 4xBB with AA, 2xBB with everything else) it's hugely -EV.

Somebody post the last one of these where Ed Miller replied. I'm too busy to look right now.

Re: NLHTAP Preflop Raise Sizes vs SSNL
It is important to note that NLHTAP was written by two limit players. I have yet to see a great NLHE player vary his preflop raises depending on his hand.

Would it be alright to just always use the "raise pot" feature of many sites?

[/ QUOTE ] From what I understand, by what you have written you are suggesting that you read to raise different amounts based on the strength of your hand. That is one of the worst things you can possibly do. Think about it if you raise more when you have AA, and you raise less when you have KJs, you are giving away the strength of your hand. Now on the other hand raising different amounts based on your position is accually acceptable and is good. If you raise less from early position you encourage action, and commit less money to the pot when you are out of position. Basically dont fall into a predictable pattern. |

Re: NLHTAP Preflop Raise Sizes vs SSNL
A standard raise is 3-3.5x the BB.
