How does Party identify your particular computer?
Party knows when two different players play on the same computer. How do they identify the computer? I'm pretty sure it's more than just IP address.
Does anybody know what information they use? MAC address of your ethernet card? Some sort of hardware profile? Some key that they set in the registry? |

Re: How does Party identify your particular computer?
I'm not sure, but when they called my dad to verify some stuff since they knew we played at the same computer, the guy told him that to avoid problems in the future, be sure not to click the "remember me" box on the software.
I have no idea why this would matter, but the guy seemed to suggest that this had something to do with it. |

Re: How does Party identify your particular computer?
They can only detect your IP address from the internet traffic.
However, since their software is running on your computer they can use a whole host of options to label your computer. Windows creates a unique fingerprint for each version of windows, there is also various hardware fingerprints or Party can just make up their own in the registry. Looking at the registry keys there is "userName", "ScreenName", "id", "useCount". Any number of these could be used. |

Re: How does Party identify your particular computer?
I'm pretty sure that each computer has a unique chip based ID which party is using. Which is why even a format and re-install won't trick them into not knowing who you are if you try to set up another account, or if 2 different people use one computer.

Probably hard drive serial # IMO [/ QUOTE ] I hear it's the firefox extentions you have installed. If you don't have firefox, then they use the number of people on your MSN or AIM buddy list. Finally, they'll use a combination of your IE start page & bookmarks |

Re: How does Party identify your particular computer?
FWIW I fired up party earlier today.....some stuff used ports 80&443 which would be re-routed using a proxy, but they also used another port while checking for updates as well as when connecting to tables. I'm feeling less comfortable that a proxy woud be a viable solution, even if you had a remailer/etc.
