This was a difficult spot I got myself in against a fellow 2p2er, Anksy. I have played with Anksy a bit in the 10/25 games on ub and he seems pretty loose pre 35ish vpip and also fairly aggressive post flop. However, he is certainly a solid player and a winner in the games.
This session we were battling back and forth on a few tables where we both became deepstacked (thought not on this table in particular), but no hands so far between us have played to the felt. I raise KK pre, standard. I get a call in position by Anksy, who will call with a wider range than most opponents preflop if in position. He hasn't gotten out of line this session, however. I decide to get chk call this flop. His flop betting range is quite large so I figure I could be ahead (I probably should have just bet this out?). The turn brings the gutter straight, which I'm not that worried about. I chk and now he checks behind on the turn. At this point, I think I have the best hand, as he would probably bet most aces or greater on this board on the turn, although not necessarily. The river is where things get interesting, where I make my set and the flush comes. What do people like doing here? I figure he may pay off with an Ace or two pair or a worse set (unlikely he has this, as stated above). Or is a chk call best to bluff-induce (the third spade is a good bluff card most likely in his mind). Do people like a bet and fold to a push, a bet and a call a push, a chk call here? I wasn't sure what the best line was so I just bet out. My plan prior to hitting the set was to chk call his river bet on most rivers. He then shoves in. I? XXX is at seat 0 with $2310. YYY is at seat 1 with $2601. ZZZ is at seat 2 with $3047.50. HERO is at seat 3 with $3069. ansky451 is at seat 4 with $2177. AAA is at seat 5 with $7798. The button is at seat 2. HERO posts the small blind of $10. ansky451 posts the big blind of $25. XXX: -- -- YYY: -- -- ZZZ: -- -- HERO: Kh Kd ansky451: -- -- AAA: -- -- Pre-flop: AAA folds. XXX folds. YYY folds. ZZZ folds. HERO raises to $75. ansky451 calls. Flop (board: Ah 8s 6s): HERO checks. ansky451 bets $150. HERO calls. Turn (board: Ah 8s 6s 7d): HERO checks. ansky451 checks. River (board: Ah 8s 6s 7d Ks): HERO bets $450. ansky451 goes all-in for $1952. HERO barfs and...?? |

Call. Your hand is so under-represented, you can't make a tough fold here. He can easily be bluffing (your line looks very very weak) or even value betting a worse hand.

what's your hand reading for putting him on a flush? he bet the flop when the preflop raiser checked (ATC)? he checked the turn when the preflop raiser checked again (wide range of mostly weak hands)? he pushed the river when PFR bet weakly (I would argue wide range of hands)?

I'm inclined to agree zeebo. I think our line looks like AK or KK exactly, and him checking behind turn leads me to believe he is pretty much never raising with anything worse for value, he's not checking a set or the straight behind on turn. This is a bluff or the flush, given our line I would want to fold.

why does our line look like AK or KK exactly? why not QQ or JJ? if you're folding here, how low a flush would you need to call?

Why would QQ/JJ bet fullpot on river all of a sudden given our line?

So as not to face an overbet from a random hand?
