Default Illustrative View of how the Republican Party has Changed to Neo-con

These graphs are from the Replublican Liberty Caucus (based at RLC.org) and show the large shift from libertarian to Right-Wing Conservative. The first image shows the Liberplot and the next 3 show the changing face of the party over the past 16 years.

The RLC Liberplot

1991 LiberPlot

Very Libertarian

1995 LiberPlot (Shows Republicans 1st Year in Control of Congress with Newt Gingrich at the Helm)

If you'll recall, they tried to shrink the size of government, control spending, and hand certain rights back to the states (including ending the federally-imposed speed limit)but they were noticeably less libertarian and you can see the slide down to right-wing.

2005 LiberPlot (The Bush Era)

Whoa, what happened???? The religious element was unhappy with the party that they had elected and, over time, forced a slide to right-wing government.

So, a little over a decade ago, libertarians and enterprisers controlled the party and today it is controlled by right-wingers and conservatives. The libertarian element is not totally dead, but you'll notice that the majority of the Republican party is now right-wing conservative while there were a sparse few right-wingers and conservatives.

Lol. I am really happy at the growing sentiment for the libertarian movement. I have been a Libertarian for a few years now and I have never seen more people switching over to the party. We can really make a big impact in a few years if the grassroots movement keeps swelling.

Whatever you say 4 High, but people are becoming very angry at the two party system and would love to have an alternative.

Memenpho, I think you will have a very enjoyable time reasearching all the aspects from the libertarian perspective. There is a lot to learn and after 2 years of being a Libertarian, I have just scratched the surface.

I see that the Democrats are the party of authoritarians.

Actually as a Libertarian I'm also a big advocate of a third-party coalition strategy. I think the first step is to build consensus that the two-party system is irrevocably broken. I'm happy to debate why I'm not Green or Constitutionalist or Communist or whatever, but we need to work with all of those political movements -- along with the vast plurality who've never considered where they fit in -- to bring about reforms like IRV, proportional representation, and easier ballot and debate access.
