Who sells PC\'s w/o OS?
Anyone know who sells PC's without an operating system installed?
I have windows and don't want to pay for it again, and besides always wipe new PC's to get rid of all the OEM crap that they always install. Limited versions, trials, PC health crap that never works, etc.. I know dell does if you get one from their server line, but I would prefer a minitower or desktop. thanks in advance. |

I hate to be the guy that says it, but you REALLY should look into building your own. You'll get higher quality components if you do.

If you can't bring yourself to do that, you could look in to buying a box that's preinstalled w/ Linux then...as much as I hate to suggest this...wipe it out and put your windows over it. You're not paying for any software license you won't be using that way. You would still be paying for someone to have installed or image and test it during assembly, but you're not blowing money on that AND a license you don't need. Do consider building yourself tho. You'll be buying more computers over your life. Taking the plunge to build your own is +EV. |

Re: Who sells PC\'s w/o OS?
OP - When I purchased my laptop I asked dell if they would do this and take money off the price. They said no. OEMS like DELL pay something insanely low for software I believe and then charge us full price for a profit.
Thread on it is here. Also this is something customers can purchase.. I remember hearing that system builders especially those as large as dell would get windows for < $50. I have actually heard it being < $10 but am not sure of that source since I worked for the company and well not everything they did was a on the up and up. |

Monarch Computer
With or without OS, custom build to your spec, or just buy parts to build your own. Great service, good prices. |

[/ QUOTE ] You'd need to specify what you intend to use the computer for. If you're going to be gaming, I'd reccomend more than 450W, if not then 450W is fine. Also it should be noted that only the top of the line Intel Core Duo is faster than the fastest AMD chip. Don't even consider a Pentium D type processor. And newegg.com is the way to go as the above poster suggested. |
