Default UK Gov\'t

Noob question...

Why isn't the UK gov't all over the US for this? It obviously can't be quantified right now, but this has to equate to job losses, lower taxes, etc. for the UK.

If US companies lost $6B on paper in the market value and job losses loomed people would be going apesh*t here, and calling for Bush to do something.

Yes, actually. I don't know how hard they should fight, but that % change in unemployment is very measurable.

Does this mean we get to have fireworks to celebrate July 4th instead of the Americans?

What job losses? Eg, PartyGaming is listed on the LSE, but I don't think they employ many people in the UK.

Unless the resulting unemployment largely takes place in India.

This news is so significant that it was the fourth item on a very specialised finance show. I have no idea what the other three were because they were so irrelevant/boring to anything.

I can't imagine this making the news unless it's a very slow news day or some reporter has an article lying around that they fancy using.
