I think I'd rather play against a table of retirees who have been playing forever, think they know everything, and so have never read a book. Not against a crowd of computer-savvy young people who have been training themselves online against the tough online crowd and constantly checking their stats, reviewing past games on pokertracker, reading the books and discussions, and improving their play. As a new player I only profit against the biggest and softest fish in the sea, and I prefer not to share those fish with some guy who could have perfectly well stayed home in his room and earned three times the money.

[/ QUOTE ] Cliff notes below. This is almost perfect - you saved me some typing. I'll add a few thoughts while I wait for my laundry to dry. Most losing online players don't live near a casino or card clubs so they play online. They won't move to a city with card clubs to keep on losing. Winning online players may live near a casino, but they mostly played online because with multi-tabling their win rate was higher online. Some (many?) of those winning players have become dependent on their online income and are no longer in touch with the job market and a career path. If the action dries up (as I expect it will in a year or two), many will move to the casino or card club cities. The better ones will adjust to the B&M games and make them much tougher (especially at the 8/16 to 40/80 level). After all, it isn't hard for someone who understands PT, PAHUD, and all the other software to adjust to the fact that you don't let the opponent on your right know your action ahead of time. Los Angeles has the best games during weekdays because there is a seemingly endless supply of successful businessman who are either retired or semi-retired and can spend the day (or later half of the day) at the card club. Some are in fact tough players who study (e.g., Andy Fox) but most are pathetic. ------ Cliff notes: The demise of online could be a disaster for marginally talented, middle-aged mostly B&M types like me. ~ Rick |

Ok fine alot suck at live. And they run back to online... When they stop being able to some will give up and some will improve their live play. I expect an overall toughening of poker. Not much but it will happen.

its all player dependant.. basically if you're a skilled player you'll adapt to the difference, and you'll either get bored by it and find something else to do for a living and do it as a side income, because trust me.. playing live is very taxing on the mind and body.
the best online players will either hang with, or probably easily beat the live games no doubt about it. they'll just play higher b/c of the direct correlation between hands/hr, bankroll size, hours to put in.. live fish.. etc. |

[/ QUOTE ] I might be confused here. Are you referring to fish that play online or the people who are winning players online? My point was simply anyone who is going out of their way to now start playing live because they were making money online and now have to play live will be able to beat it without much of a problem. As far as limit is concerned, based on everything ive ever read comparing online to live, live games are incredibly soft in comparison... and this seems to be true from my experience as well. |
