Default Call this river raise?

Hello all. This is my first post in the micro NL forum. My regular game is 6-max limit HE, but I'm giving NL a try.

Button in this hand is new to the table, about 10 hands ago, but so far has played about half of them. Seems pretty passive, haven't seen him do anything other than call or fold. Has so far not shown down a hand.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (6 handed) internettexasholdem.com

Button ($67.80)
Hero ($46.65)
BB ($48.50)
UTG ($28.50)
MP ($18.95)
CO ($53.35)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
2 folds, CO calls $0.50, Button calls $0.50, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($2) K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (4 players)
Hero bets $2, BB folds, CO calls $2, Button calls $2.

Turn: ($8) 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players)
Hero bets $8, CO folds, Button calls $8.

River: ($24) Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets $8, Button raises to $16, Hero ...

I only bet $8 on the river, because if he has either diamonds or hearts, those draws missed, so he's not going to call a big bet. This may be flawed thinking.

I don't know what to make of his min-raise. Did he smell weakness in my smallish bet? Even though he's new to the table, he didn't seem like the kind of person to do this with just a K. This just so feels like 2-pair, which would certainly be better than mine, unless it's 45.

Why did you bet so small on the river? I bet 14 and fold to a raise.

As it is, you bet 1/3 pot and got minraised. There is 48 in the pot, and 8 to you...you need to be good like 14% of the time to make the call break even. You must call.

What's wrong with check/calling to pick off bluffs from missed draws? I agree though that if we are betting bet more and fold to a raise, and as played call the raise

If you think villain is on a flush draw, betting the river only does you more harm than good. Villain will fold to your river bet with a missed flush. Most villains are also likely to check behind with a missed flush draw as well letting you have a free showdown. Or you may actually induce a bluff by checking, which is a good thing and also protecting yourself from a greater loss when villain has your hand beaten

Im checking this river and calling any moderate sized bet.

I just really can't figure out what villain has in this hand. I doubt someone is limping QK on the button, or slowplaying a set on the turn with the board looking like it is.

As played, you have to call the min raise on the river.

Im not really keen on the suggestions to bet bigger on the river and fold to a reraise. If you're betting at least 14 on the river and getting minraised you've already gotten over half your stack in by now and getting 2.7:1 on a call.

If you're gonna bet big on this river be willing to call-all in as I dont think betting then folding to a reraise here is any good.
