Neighbors are too loud

So this definitely makes me sound like an old man... but the people in a certain apartment are too loud, especially from 3am-6am.

I've been told by my landlord not to confront them when it happens and to call the police.

What exactly is the process around this? Do I straight call 911, even if I'm not certain that it's the room directly above me or next to me and let the police figure that out? Is there usually a secondary line for this (aka not 911) in cases where it's not an "emergency", but I still need to have officers come write these [censored] some tickets?

Or am I just a crotchety old man?

1. Buy a house and you won't have this problem

2. Find out the local police number and call that instead of 911. Just look in the phone book.

3. Pratice fist-shaking and saying "Will you damn whipper-snappers shutup!"

They're being loud from 3-6AM. I think most people would find this annoying.

Your landlord told you not to confront them about this and to call the police right away. I personally would only involve the police as a last resort. Maybe they just don't realize exactly how loud they are being. If this was me, I would figure out exactly which apartment is being so loud, and talk to them about it. If the noise continues, call the police.

3am-6am is pretty inconsiderate. I don't know many people who would not have a problem with that. That is the problem with apartment complexes.

Find the local cop number and call that. They will just get a warning and it will shut them up. If you don't know them then it really is not worth confronting them as there is definitely a better chance of it turning bad if you go down there alone as opposed to having the cops do it.

Yeah, cops can. They rock. With repeated complaints, it'll give landlord justification to evict them.
