Anyone think televising that 4000+ people won 10k+ in prizes with little hope in taxing that money made someones arguement easier in the Senate.

way under 2000. why did harrahs and all the big casinos let this bill pass? dont they know that most people learn, chat, and play poker online first before they step into a casino poker room.

I thought you had to fill out tax forms when you cashed at the WSOP.
I read that they were even coming after foreign nationals who had cashed at the WSOP the year BEFORE and had failed to pay taxes.

I don't think the number of big cashes at the WSOP had anything to do with the passage of the bill.

Somehow, I don't think B&M casinos are ALL that concerned. Think about it.

What he means is that all those people who won seats online owe taxes on the fair market value of that prize, that is, taxes on $10,000. And I'm sure few if any paid it.

Oh, I guess that's probably correct.

Although I still doubt this was any kind of consideration when they passed the legislation.

They very possibly hadn't even figured that out at all.
If they had, then they may have been LESS willing to shut it down and MORE interested in figuring out how they can get some of those taxes.

I'm pretty sure thats wrong. $10,000 would go in the profit column, then as soon as you play the event it would go in the loses column. It's a wash.

This year's winners exhausted the easy to get at wsop gold seam. It's back to panning for flakes in the stream for all the donkament players.

There's probably going to be more than ten thousand people in next year's WSOP main event and chances are 7000 of them won't know a damn thing about the ban.

I'd set it at like 3000 or 3500, and 4000 may not be out of the question. Even if this bill really has teeth, it's gonna take a couple years for people to really let go of poker. As such, they'll prob be a lot of people traveling to Vegas trying to sat in live/buy-in since they miss playing. Plus, you still have all the international online qualifiers.
