internet/online poker/tetrinet at ucla

I'm a freshman who just moved into Rieber Terrace on friday.

The internet seems to be working flawlessly except things ive noticed in online poker, tetrinet, and gaim.

On pokerstars, actions take a long time to register. Sometimes it will stop working entirely for 5-120 seconds and I won't be able to see or do anything at all. Other sites also take long periods of time to log in at times.

Tetrinet has the same problem where the pieces will just stop coming but I'll still be able to see my opponents actions.

In gaim sometimes I won't be able to view profiles.

But even while I'm getting these problems, internet browsing in firefox will be working perfectly fine.

Anybody know how to fix this or have the same problem?

Hey, nice to see another bruin on the forums. I haven't been in the dorms for a couple years now, but from what I last heard, I knew a few people who played poker in the dorms, and I had yet to hear about any such problems. But maybe they wouldn't just be like, "Hey, my PP is slow!" I can ask around, if you'd like.

Well I called the student tech center yesterday to talk to a few student workers who told me the problem was probably my software/computer. I looked around for a bit... disabled the XP firewall, disabled my antivirus, scanned for spyware, bypassed the hub, but nothing worked. Then one of my roommates told me his AIM was acting strange too and the other one said his Outlook Express wasn't working. So I called back and got a ticket for the manager to talk to me but he didn't call until about an hour ago. He made me run a speedtest at broadbandreports. After seeing that i was getting 2000KB/s both ways, he concluded that there couldn't be anything wrong so he told me he'd have the network tech call me in 15-20 minutes. Right now its been about an hour later and I haven't gotten the call yet.

Oh yea, I never had any of these problems at orientation either at Rieber Vista.

Yea the guys at STC kept insisting something was wrong with our stuff but the network services eventually called me. All they did was reset their router or something and the internet started working fine. Apparently it was affecting the entire Rieber Terrace building. Are there any big online players here that play at UCLA? Send me a PM.

Beeny, I'm a UCLA student (obviously). Not sure what you consider a "big" online player, though.
