getting wierd error message
I run Windows XP on a Toshiba laptop.
Yesterday my system started running really slowly, especially during start-up. Two seperate anti-virus programs returned an error message: "Exception externe: C0000006". Also, sound sometimes comes out garbled/echo-y. Processes will randomly slow my computer to the extreme. What is going on with my computer and how do I fix it? |

Re: getting wierd error message
Part of your problem might be having two anti-virus programs.

Why is that?
Should I uninstall the extra one? |

Norton + Kaspersky = constant 99% CPU usage. On the other hand, some play well together. The AV fights are related to their realtime protection. You could disable your real time protection in one of your two, and just run manual scans with it. |

Re: getting wierd error message
Ok I uninstalled the extra one and tried running a scan with my original antivirus (Trend Micro PC Cillin). It did the same thing it did before (got to a certain file and the hard drive started making a monotous audible noise indicating it was trying to do something) and then I get the error externe: C0000006 message again. Also, am currently trying to install a Windows update and the drive is making a similar noise. Coincidence or relevant?
