The Hill: Internet Gambling in DOD Authorization (Mon Night)
I just saw that this was posted:
Hill article on Internet Gambling Long story short - the article states that Frist got the gambling language in the DoD authorization bill but that due to all the other problems with the bill nobody knows how that will play out. That article contradicts what others have posted on this. I have no inside knowledge so I can't say if the ban is in the DoD bill or not. Hopefully some of our resident experts can comment. Re: The Hill: Internet Gambling in DOD Authorization (Mon Night)
If the article is true, this looks like the end of online gambling here in the U.S. Those who have been supporting themselves with their online poker will need to go back to their previous jobs, unless they no longer need to work for a living.

I'm hoping this is a timing issue and the article has to do with stuff written over the weekend. Cripes.

Not good if true obv. Only hope if true is that time runs out on this bill and no compromise is made on the number of other items that have been disagreed upon in the DOD bill.

[/ QUOTE ] I'd like to think you are correct, although Google lists the article as being posted "59 minutes ago" when I checked just now. That being said, the article was pretty far down on the front page of The Hill if you load up their home page. I dunno. This is frustrating news, tho, that is for sure. Les |

Re: The Hill: Internet Gambling in DOD Authorization (Mon Night)
1)How realible is this site? No one's ever linked to it before.
2)"Internet gambling is already illegal in most of the country, with the major exceptions of Nevada, Indian reservations and other smaller locales where residents have voted to change the law." Is this true? If not, there goes some cred for this article. 3)It says nothing about ISP's, which is good. And nothing about Neteller, just gambling sites. Unless the wording is broad enough to count Neteller. 4)The only thing worse than i-gambling being made illegal is it being illegal and stopable. Hell, when I first deposited in July 04, I thought it was illegal to play. Didn't stop me. Hope it doesn't stop anyone else. Actually, I hope this wording in the DoD Auth gets removed or jammed. |

Crap. Yeah, I'm sure Berge or Mr. K has or can get shed more light on this.
Obviously nothing's certain until the conference report is filed, but how it seems odd that the anti-online gaming language was in the report all day and nobody knew about it? So, hopefully, Sens. Warner and Levin will hold their ground on this. |

1)How realible is this site? No one's ever linked to it before. [/ QUOTE ] I can answer this point - the Hill is generally considered to be pretty reliable as I understand it. It is a paper who's main audience is folks who work in congress, lobbyists, other news media etc. John Paul |

Re: The Hill: Internet Gambling in DOD Authorization (Mon Night)
I hope it's just a case of two reporter clowns looking for some page hits on dated info (well, weekend info) on a popular issue with the gambling crowd.
As I understand it, many of these reporters have canned material they spit out if they think something is in the works, even if it isn't accurate. Clutching at straws, aren't I? |
