I've been struggling a lot with hands like these lately. I'd appreciate any advice you could give. Should I give these up, and if so, when?
MP3 is lagtard. SB I haven't pegged, but he's seen an awful lot of flops and does a lot of cold calling. Party Poker Limit Holdem Ring game Limit: $0.50/$1 9 players Converter Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is MP2 with K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3 folds, Hero raises, MP3 calls, 2 folds, SB calls, BB calls. Flop: Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (8SB, 4 players) SB bets, BB folds, Hero raises, MP3 folds, SB calls. I know I have at least the odds to peel, but I raised here a) because I may still be good, b) to potentially get a free card, c) as a semibluff, d) to buy outs (although this is least useful since unlikely MP3 has K5) Turn: 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (6BB, 2 players) SB bets, Hero calls (7:1). Villain donks again. Am I behind for sure now? Do I even have odds to call? River: 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (8BB, 2 players) SB bets, Hero calls (9:1). Crying call. Is this a spew? Results: Final pot: 10BB |

i'm not sure a flop raise does anything. a lot of players will donk a weak A and see "where they stand" I would almost fold to a turn donk, as not all our 5 outs are good. Sometimes we are drawing dead when villain holds A9. River is a fold. Villain has a pair of aces or better almost always.

I would play preflop like you did.
I would play the flop like you did. On the turn, when SB bets back into me after all the agression I just showed, I would just figure that he has to be betting top pair or better unless some read told me otherswise. I am not positive on this though, as I am still learning to play middle range hands as well. |

Menace,
I'm not sure about the flop raise. Generally on this board, SB's donk indicates a weak ace. You don't really need to protect your hand here, but I buy it as an attempt at a free card. Since the raise obviously didn't convince the SB he's behind, you're likely way behind on this turn card. In fact, you may be drawing thin to aces up. Getting only 7:1, I think I fold here. |
