Just upped the memory on my laptop
I took the memory from 512mb to 1gb - how much of a difference do you think I'll see? I use the computer for normal work-related stuff, as well as surfing the web and stuff, though I know the latter won't see much improvement.

Re: Just upped the memory on my laptop
Depends what exactly "typical work stuff" is. CAD/CAM? Nonlinear Video editing? Those could be normal for some jobs .
Depends how much junk you load up in your systray, too...23.6 icons all eating 1-30 megs a peice adds up. What other bloatware do you run? Yahoo/MSN/AOL w/ a bunch of bells and whistles enabled (default install)? How did it run before? How many browser windows or browser tabs do you typically have open? Do you tend to keep large word docs, pdf's, and spreadsheets open? Even which email client you use can drastically change mem usage. Need more info...but it'd prolly be faster just to boot it up, use it, and see how much or even if it's faster. Oh...forgot to ask how much malware you have running, too |

Re: Just upped the memory on my laptop
and on a side note .. disable your virtual memory. You should have enough RAM, and using virtual memory to use your HD as memory will decrease your performance.
