Soundcard from Music Recording?
I'm looking to build a new computer to record music (vocal, guitar, keyboard, drums) most likely using pro-tools. Does anyone have any soundcard or general suggestions for the computer. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Soundcard from Music Recording?
any pro tools setup that you buy will come with some sort of hardware interface.
the Mbox won't work for drums as it has only 2 inputs. if you want to do drums, i would buy a 002 rack. 4 mic preamps on board...buy a 4-channel mackie onyx for 4 more. and you can do drums with 8 inputs. jon |

I've got the M-Audio Delta 44. I think it came with the M-audio OmniStudio I have. Nice package.

Re: Soundcard from Music Recording?
You can rewire to have extra inputs through an MBox which is what I would do. I would also get a Triton and a Korg

Re: Soundcard from Music Recording?
rewire? how do you mean?
the rewire protocol deals with syncing up different programs to each other if you mean physically rewiring things...you will still run out of inputs. drums take a lot of microphones and the 2 inputs on the mbox aren't gonna cut it. incidentally....a Triton *IS* a Korg. jon |

Re: Soundcard from Music Recording?
The Triton is made by Korg. I've never worked with live drums so you are probably right about the amount of inputs required.

Re: Soundcard from Music Recording?
I looked at several m-audio units before getting a presonus firebox and I was shocked that m-audio is still making some of their units using usb 1.1. this really sucks as it impacts stuff like monitoring (if using effects) significantly.
I would definitely make sure whatever card you go with is either USB2.0 or firewire compatible, you really don't want a USB1.1 card. -- |
