Default BJ ROR v. EV

Say you are going to clear a 100 dollar bonus with 100 deposit, total 200.

You can clear a $1/hand, and nvever lose the deposit. You can clear playing $20/hand and raise your ROR, but also raise your EV/hr substantially.

Assuming I don't care about busting, but only that my total EV stays intact. DOes increasing my ROR decrease my total EV?

Thanks for the help.

It's actually the opposite. Increasing your Risk of Ruin, Increases your EV.

There is a long post by Ed Miller about this you should search the forums for.

No, it may increase it.

Alot of arguments about this, but the way I figured it out (before reading any math about it) is this:

Ay your WR is 2500. In theory you could win 2500 on this bonus, but you can only lose 100. So by increasing varience you push your results towards one of the extremes, and in this case extremes are good.

There is also boring math to back up the argument that in the long run bigger bets + greater EV, but math is boring.

For that kind of bonus it's slightly higher total EV to bet bigger. More variance means you'll bust more often, and when you bust you don't have to complete the WR, which means you're playing a lot less '-EV' blackjack in the longterm compared to someone who bets $1 and rarely busts. That's right, busting is +EV!

You don't really gain that much EV by betting higher. Assuming 2500 WR and 0.5% HA, you're only paying $12.50 in vig anyhow. By busting more, you'll only pay a portion of that 12.50, but still, the EV gain will be well less than the whole $12.50.

So betting big won't exactly make you rich--it'll just save pennies.

That said, I've alway belived in max betting. Wasting hours playing blackjack sucks. I tend to bet $25-$60/hand on small bonuses, and up to $500/hand on large ones [3000+]. Cause hey--wasting time sucks.

I'm back to casino whoring after a horrible run @ SNGs, but wouldn't it be wise to start out with the $1/hand bets for a beginner(Under $100 total gambling roll)?

I busted my 4th casino betting 2/hand following the charts.....

What a waste of 3 hours that was.
