Default help for my first game

Hello all,

Next week, I'm holding my first home game ever. It will be a 7 handed game and we will play limit hold'em 2/4 (so blinds are 1/2).

How many chip colors do I need and how much of each color?
Is 100 (25x big blind) a reasonable buy-in?

Thanks all! It will be big fun

Is this a good partitioning of the chips for a buy-in of 100:

* 20 chips of value 1
* 20 chips of value 2
* 10 chips of value 4

?

$60-80 is enough to buy in, but $100 is okay. Plan on having $50 in your pocket as backup.

You really only need red $5 and white $1 chips, maybe a few green $25 chips. 25 white, 7 red gives you the $60, with another 75 white as backup (250 chips). 125 reds total, along with about 20 green chips, should do just fine for 7 players. Say 25 green for an even 400 chips.

Enjoy the first game. Print a copy of Robert's Rules or something from homepokertourneys.com, so you have a backup for any problems that arise.

Im a bit confused here. Why do I need $25 chips? I guess you think I am organizing a no limit game, but we are playing limit!

Thanks for the url!

You only need a single chip color for $2/$4 Limit (in fact as a general rule limit games are best played with a single color chip.

I would give each chip a $1 value so that it has a 2 chip 4 chip structure.

$100 is a reasonable buy-in for the game.

I agree that you only need $1 chips for a 2/4 limit game. Let $20 bills (only $20 and higher keeps the clutter down) play and people can keep plenty behind. 400 or 500 white chips will be enough. You'd like a rack per player but that's a lot of chips. Paradoxically, limit requires more chips than NL. Remember, big looking pots drive action in limit. If the game goes over well and continues, pick up some more $1's and add at least a rack of $5's later.

One thing to consider, how many raises will be allowed in a multiway betting round? Pick either three or four and make it a rule. I would allow unlimited action if the round starts head up.

You really only need one denominations ($1), but if you don't have enough chips of one color, you could also use $2 chips. I would let people buy-in for $60, give them 20 each of $1 and $2 chips if you are low on chips. If the number of chips is not an issue, but in for $100 and give them a rack of white.

I would only use $1 and $5 chips. I'd get probably 500 whites, and 100 reds. But this game should primarly be a white chip game

Thanks all for your replies! There is one problem: I don't have that many chips I have:

- 150 white
- 150 red
- 100 green
- 50 blue
- 50 black

Should I buy extra chips, or play with multiple colors? If the latter is okay, what do you propose?

thanks again

You could make the red/white/green $1 chips and the blue and black $5 chips. or just buy more chips
