Default Semi steal gone bad? What is my river play?

This started out as typical HU play in the blinds. I know I should have led the turn rather than check. My question is on the best way to proceed on the river.

My thought was to check and call figuring that with the 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I can only beat a bluff. The 2+2'r that I talk these things over with, labled that as weak tight (his evidence was the turn check) and thought a lead bet would be smarter because this LAP would most likely call alot of non flush hands.

How do I decide which move to use with which types of opponents?

quick, re-edit the hand history and put it in 2+2 format instead of FTR.

Why did you check this turn? Bet the turn, bet the river.

Sorry about hashing up the conversion. Here it is in 2+2 format.

It seems clear now that I should have bet, but how do I respond to a raise on the turn or river?

What kind of read do you have on opponent? Aggressive? Passive?

Against passives, a fold to a river raise would probably be best. Your typical .50/1.00 LPP fish has you crushed like always if they raise this river. But I have a hard time folding good hands in a HU blind battle for one more bet.

A turn raise is entirely different. It could be a semi-bluff, 2-pair, or an A that waited until the turn to raise. Against his possible raising range on the turn, should we call with our top pair + (5-high) flush draw? Probably.

Being raised at any point along the way is probably bad news for our hand. But the way the hand played out, keep betting, they'll keep calling with worse crap. If you get raised, then re-evaluate. But don't freeze up because you're afraid you might get raised.
