I thought I'd follow-up my wildly popular previous thread on "Most Overrated Poker Players" with a new one for "Most Underrated Poker Players"...
Who do you guys think are underrated and why? Give some players and criteria/reasons for why they are underrated... Here's yet another provisional list: 1.) Allen Cunningham I think his results speak for themselves, as he is CLEARLY one of the most dominant players alive, having won close to 10mil already. Yet, despite being voted as being the best all around player under 30 and having numerous tournament wins/cashes - including a final table appearance at this year's WSOP, I think Cunningham is still underappreciated by many. ....How often do you hear his name mentioned as being one of the best players - cash games and/or tourneys. I think it's because he's a plain everyday looking guy, who is not very articulate (to the media) and is probably humble. 2.) John Juanda See above description...basically a guy who's humble, low-key, and Asian??? 3.) Kathy Liebert Also see above...Just because she's not considered a HOT BABE...like Clonie Gown or numerous other female players, doesn't mean she's not one of the best out there. Her longevity in both cash games AND tourneys is probably unsurpassed by any other female (other than Jennifer Harman). Honorable Mention: Mike Matusow??????? Let's get the chat going fools, -TheMan |

The first man who came to mind when I read this topic was Allen Cunningham. Good choice. Juanda is also another one, but I think a lot more people know him then AC. A good choice would be Chip Reese/Todd Brunson.

[/ QUOTE ] People keep forgetting his POY. He's definitely not underrated by anyone who knows the game - he just shuns publicity, so he doesn't get marketed at all. |

I would agree with the Cunningham comments, but those who have a clue, know he's one of the best.
John D'Agostino - Not really rated by a lot of people, but he is one of my favorite players. Tim Phan - If you follow his recent tournament track record, he's been quality. He's one of these guys lacking a big win. Again, not rated by a lot of people, but one of my favorites recently. Chad Brown - Another guy lacking a big win, but he has numerous TV appearances and big cashes. Brad Booth - My pick for WPT POY, if he plays enough events, I think he will break out. With 2 WPT Bellagio tournament coming up, I wouldn't be suprised to see him final at one of them. |
