Despite his lush surroundings, Gold has managed to stay focused and take on all challengers. Continuing his regimen of blueberries and highly aggressive play, Gold has successfully navigated the field and positioned himself to win his second tournament in a row.

Why wouldn't he be playing tournaments? He's probably doing it for either a Bodog or for Chan as a promo. Either way, he can do whatever he wants.

I wonder what Chan thinks of Gold welching on the deal. Even if Gold doesn't care what other players think, I would imagine in Chan's circles that stuff is pretty important. IE - they might look down on Chan for continuing to associate with Gold. I know I would.

Maybe there never was a deal with Chan, and it was just another possibly-fictionalized statement that came out of Gold's mouth during that time.
