Default CMG

Who's buying Chipotle today? They get great word of mouth in OOT alone, and I don't see why they won't do better without McDonalds than they have with them.

It might be harder to get the best deals with suppliers/contractors/etc. without the backing of McDonald's? At these prices stock might not be a value, and restaurant industry sees a lot of trendy stocks that eventually have to lose momentum? Baja Fresh reminds me of a concept that was extremely popular for a while, from waht I understand the stores do well, but they're not exactly high growth?

Nothing to base this on just random thoughts... I am not very familiar with CMG or restaurant stocks at all, but I will be following the price for the next few weeks... if anything I was thinking it could quickly get overvalued (or is alreayd overvalued). And if so would I be better off say playing put options or just going short on the stock?

Seems rediculous to double in price on your IPO day.

The internet is for porn.

And IPOs are for suckers... doo bee doo.

(Read my thoughts in OOT if you want.)

My take on this: Chipotle owes McD's money, and McD's doesn't think the future prospects of Chipotle are as rosy as they may seem to the untrained observer. So McD's unloads some shares at a premium, and uses the cash to repay McD's. Win-win for McD's, lose-lose for CMG shareholders.

Through the first 9 months of 04 they spent $57mm on growth capex. Through the first 9 months of 05 they spend $33mm on growth capex. Not good for a stock with a big growth multiple. Maybe this gets to the point why MCD thought this was a good time to sell off some of it.
