Default 42\" monitor for multitabling?

I am considering getting a 42" flat screen or DLP TV to replace my dual 19" LCD set up. Does anyone out there use a big screen TV as a monitor for multi tabling? I'd like to kow how usefull it is and what I have to consider when I look at TVs. Obviously I will need a video card with high widescreen resolution and the TV will need a PC input. Anything else I'm missing?

My buddy tried this on a 32" LCD, you have to figure out what the resolution the TV suports is.

It looked like crap when he did it FWIW, i would try it first, maybe bring a laptop to the store and ask if you can check it out.

Yes. Usually any LCD/Plasma/CRT TV screen doesn't support even 1024x768. A 19" monitor will in most cases support a higher resolution, meaning a 42" TV will just cause more overlap and uglier graphics.

Like Orca said, you'd be better off with one 19" LCD than a 42" TV.

Best bet if you want something big is to get Dell's 30" Wide-screen monitor

As others have said, that will solve nothing.

Check the resolution on whatever yuo buy.

The Dell 30" is pretty expensive, but the 24" has a decent 1900x1200 resolution for less than half.

Or, you could get a 40-47" LCD that runs at 1080p (1920x1080) and use that for multitabling. Since the vertical is slightly smaller than say, the Dell 2407WFP, you'd have a small amount of vertical overlap on sites that don't resize. However, you should be able to fit 9 resized party or stars tables with no overlap fine. And plus it would double as a fantastic HDTV.

If you play primarily on Party/Stars, then you should seriously consider that. Even at the smallest possible size, a Party window would be easy to see on an LCD that large, even from a distance.

The Westinghouse 42w2 is just such an LCD, and is available for as low as $1500 if you look around hard enough. They make a 37" and 47" version that also runs at 1080p as well. Samsung, Sony, and a few other more well established manufacturers have 1080p LCDs out, but they would be much more expensive and have features you wouldn't really want if it was primarily for poker. Pioneer has a 1080p 50" Plasma, but that would set you back 10k, and would be at some risk of burn-in with computer use.

EDIT: And as far as what you would need to run a setup like this... virtually any modern video card can run at 1920x1080. Most all 1080p LCDs also have both VGA and DVI inputs, so once again, you wouldn't need anything special there.

but 4 2001f (1600 x 1200) in a square = 3200 x 2400 for a fraction of the cost

4 of the 2001's at $350 each if you can get that price would be $1400.

The product listed is $1800 and I suspect you could get cheaper if you looked around.

Not saying that 4 2001 FP's isn't the better deal.
But I believe the cost is more similar than you imply.
Although TECHNICALLY I suppose $1400 is indeed a fraction of $1800.
But usually when one says 'fraction of the cost' they are talking a much more significant difference than that.

I had the 4 x 2001FP setup for about a month and it wasn't anything like i'd expected. It was a pain to use as there never was one monitor in the direct center, you'd always be looking to the side og slighty up/down. I wouldn't recommend it. I vastly prefer my current 2 x 2001FP setup with the 30" in the middle, the 24" might also work although the sizes/resolution wouldn't match then.

Bad (as in good, but not _that_ good):

Good!
