What is a good web design software? I am looking to make a website for a small business. I want something that is easy to use and effective, and hopefully not super expensive. I use a PC.
Thanks Mike |

The industry standard is Dreamweaver but Frontpage or Frontpage express will do in a pinch. If you don't know what you're doing then visit www.elance.com and you can probably get a basic site made pretty cheap.

Adobe GoLive! is great but expensive and you're not going to be able to understand how to use it right out of the box. Since you're asking this question...just use FrontPage.

i use notepad for all my web coding needs.
for personal sites that don't require much content change, my default plan is to find a template that will work for my envisioned final product and modify the html/css accordingly. if i'm gonna be doing a lot of content changes or posting news, then obviously some weblog software like movable type or wordpress would be ideal. if it's going to be a bigger project and i need more control, then a full on CMS like drupal or joomla is preferable. i hate coding so i don't spend much time using some fancy shmancy IDE like dreamweaver or what not. what kind of project are you going to be doing mike? |

Nvu (free), FrontPage ($), Dreamweaver ($$). Honestly, if it's a "brochure" type of a site, you're better off hiring a local person to do it and just learning to update it. Assuming your time is not free, there's probably no savings in creating it yourself.

![]() Hire someone else to do it, but make sure they show you how to update stuff. |
