Poker on a Uni Internet Connection

So I got my username and password for my university's internet system today, so I can now use the web in my room.

The first thing I did was to check if I could play poker. Titan Poker wouldn't connect, so I tried Pokerstars which worked. I play for maybe half an hour and quit the client. When I come back maybe 20 minutes later it won't connect! [img]/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img]

So then I try PartyPoker, which works fine. I play for 10 minutes, quit again, and when I come back about 10 mins later it won't connect either.

Is the university blocking me from connecting? They say that they can monitor your internet usage from time to time, to make sure that you're not abusing it. Surely they wouln't be doing that already and not at 7:30PM? There's nothing wrong with playing poker online (I'm in Northern Ireland, so I think it's legal) and it's not like it's worse than say drinking.

I can't connect to mIRC either (but MSN messenger works fine). [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

EDIT - Party works again... but still no joy with Stars.

Ya, I had the same problem, go to the tech support for your university and talk to them. I talked them into giving me access to downloading and playing in poker sites because I told them I was playing with the .net version with play money.

Yeah but you live in America, right? Online poker is technically illegal there. If they allow us to drink in our rooms, then why not play poker? [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]
