Default Sometimes we forget our place

All you professional and semiprofessional players should reflect on your role now and then.

Losing players are your customers. You exist to entertain them and their happiness is paramount because they give you their money. You must never spoil the game for them, abuse them, make them feel like a sucker, or cause them to feel cheated. To do otherwise is negative EV for you, bad karma, bad for poker, and very unprofessional.

We need to exercise peer pressure on those of us who misbehave and fail to appreciate what they have. I think the sites have a role to play in this too. Warnings and chat bans are fine when Joe Sixpack takes a few beats and loses his temper once in a while. But anyone who plays all the time and withdraws thousands of dollars a month needs to be held to higher standards. Your supposed value to the site and society is that you start the games and keep them going. But if you insist on going postal and spewing venom at some 60/20 sap who happened to make a few hands then you are no asset at all. You should be offered a speedy cashout and invited to take your business elsewhere. You won't be missed. The games will be softer without you and someone who is nicer to the customers will be happy to take your seat.

Wow, talk about timing.

We just had to send a whale packing for this very reason. Sucks because our current promo was designed for heavy players to benefit from, but we got someone on the site that just refused to play unless his chat was returned. Told us it was his right to call people racist names and that's how he played the game.

We're a tiny site and it hurt businesswise to do so, but Stellar's right...site's must make it fun for everyone. That also means they must change their behavior towards player tools that give even the perception of an unfair advantage to other players.

When I get mad I try to restrict myself to complimenting them on their ESP on other indirect sarcastic statements. Most of the time I succeed in keeping myself from saying anything.

I've been berated in tournies and cash games by several 2+2ers, each of whom have more than 2,000 posts.

I don't understand how such a simple concept is so difficult for so many talented players to understand and abide by. They can weigh the EV of everything else, but for whatever reason they can't resist typing garbage into the chat box. Its just a complete lack of discipline that costs everyone money.

I think Stellar's post should be stickied btw.

Great post, it can't be overstated that the action/recreational players need to be treated with respect and gratitude. I noticed this when I moved to AC that most of the middle-aged and older grinders had a good sense for this. They knew the regular donators by name, shook there hands when they came in and never used terms like fish and donkey. We are the casino hosts in this relationship, we provide a -ev gaming experience but if the player isn't having a good time because he's being berated in chat then Party blackjack is only a mouse click away.
