Default What does \"float\" mean?

I didn't really know where to ask this question. What does "float" mean in strategy posts? Does it mean to flat call with a speculative hand/overcards?

Sorry I'm such an idiot

To call a bet, generally with nothing, with the intention of betting/raising (as a bluff) later in the hand to take the pot down.

Two most comon uses are cold calling with position pre flop in limit, and calling continuation bets post flop with the intent of stealing the pot later in NL. My impression is that most people who float in limit are described by the above quote. In NL, you need to float some or you are ridiculously exploitable.*

*Edit - against opponents who will often make continuation bets when they miss a flop.
