Default What is the reason for additional blind

Can someone please explain the reasoning for having an additional blind when someone gets knockout in those blind/button position. I always hear people say there has to be at two blinds when someone gets knocked out in those positions. HUH?? BUT WHY??? I just don't understand. Why not just a regular 1 big and 1 small? The house still gets their cut right? Someone please explain the logic for posting an additional blind.

cause there is no ''dead button''. In most cardrooms I've played in (I hardly play in vegas so don't know what the standard rule is there) the button has to move to the next player. The additional blind is so everyone pays the SB and BB.

I guess your talking trny's

The simple answer is so no one gets to miss the blind, even more so in cash games the trnys this is the rule. It just for keeping things level for the PLAYERS which is the most important thing in a game

Noone at the table ever misses a blind (is allowed to play an orbit without paying both his blinds) under either rule. With the dead button there will sometimes be a hand that has no small blind because the SB is gone, and sometimes someone will get to be last to act on two hands in a row.

I see no excuse whatsoever for the forward-moving-blind rule except to force extra chips per hour into the middle of the table, and pray the dead button version becomes universal in live games like it is online.

The forward moving button was inventedd for games where the button pays money to the casino. In games with a drop on the button there cannot be a dead button.

I still don't understand. I understand the idea that the button always moves and no one misses a blind (big or small), but I don't understand what Randy wrote.

Some poker rooms are in states/countries that don't allow a rake as we know it. So instead of raking from the pot, they make the button pay the max rake up front as a dead blind.

I'm talking about cash games. Not missing a blind makes perfect sense in a tourney. But in a cash game, all that matters is that the house gets their cut right? So I would have thought that missing a BB isn't an issue in a cash game. That's my initial thought because it makes sense. But then we're talking about real life.

A dead button is when the button is not on a player. If the future button player gets knocked out in a tourney, then the button will be placed on his old position on the hand after his knock out hand.
