Default 3/6: QQ vs Tricky Aggressive Player

Villain is a tricky, loose aggressive player. I've seen him limp 99, and 3-bet QJo preflop. He hasn't been super out of line postflop, but is definitely tricky.

Villain limps in MP, Button limps, I raise QQ in the SB, BB folds and limpers call.

Flop is 7-5-4 rainbow. I bet, Villain raises, and Button folds. I decide to call here with the intention of CR the turn.

Turn is another 7. Not exactly the turn I'm looking for, but I decide to CR anyways... I check, Villain bets, I raise... Villain re-raises... Hero???

I probably should have just 3-bet the flop, but as played, what do we do from here?

As played, I'd probaby call the three bet and check/call the river.

I don't think I would check/raise the turn here. I'd probably bet the turn, call if raised, and check/call the river. Checkraising the turn is quite bad, I think. That flop raise could be a free card play, and he might check behind on the turn. But if he flopped a straight or hit his trips, you're ensuring you lose the most money you can.

I call and check/call river (obviously raising if hitting Q). He didn't seem that concerned about your checkraise so pretty likely he has a set? Outside (but unlikely?) possibility of having 86s or 63s if he's loose preflop, or perhaps tricky AA/KK unraised preflop. But he could also just have 66 and semi-bluffing with the straight opportunity, or maybe even worse 88 or 33 or 99-QQ; wow, am I really looking for excuses to stay in this pot?

I think you played it fine. 7 is not a bad card for you because now there are only two in the deck. He knows that flop did not help you so villian could have any 5 or any 4 or an OESD. I call down.

I think it's better to 3-bet the flop in this situation. You are OOP and can't be sure at least one bet goes in on every street, seeing this getting checked through sucks.
But also when a broadway card hits the turn, there is a possibility he won't bet (that's real bad) or he will fold to a check/raise (not a disaster but you miss a bet). So I think it's best to get the money in right now when he is still unsure about your hand. When you keep the initiative on the flop he probably wants to look you up and call you down till the river.

call down. given his description as "tricky" i can't see doing anything else. while i usually 3bet the flop, i think checkraising the turn is fine if he will call down with a worse hand and can be counted on to bet the turn. the problem is alot of scarecards come that will slow him down on the turn if he has A7 or 88 or 56 or whatever. get the value in on the flop when he will pay to play.

I 3-bet the flop because it's likely the turn card will either be an overcard, pair the board, or start filling in the straight draw. I'd like Villian to pay now in case he does have one of those draws.

I call down to the turn 3-bet, you're hand is too good to fold against this type of player, but not good enough to keep firing more bets into the pot.
