OK, Well, We\'ll Make Fun of You For That Later (NC Thread)
My thanks to Tyler for the title of this latest NC thread.
I'll kick things off with a bad beat for Paradise players. |

I hate US bashing.
Yeah, it's a stupid thing to go after these sports books, but you gotta hate on the entire country for a division of a division of the DoJ arresting someone that is breaking an out-dated piece of legislation? I dunno, just all seems so narrow minded, and ignorant of the big picture. |

I don't like it either, but I'm still sad that all these guys are getting arrested.

They don't seem to be targeting poker sites right now, but it seems like they're on the path.....

You would think that they would learn to not book flights that have layovers on US soil.
I know I sure as hell wouldn't. I bet he is wishing he had spent the money on a charter right about now. |

Sports books are quite obviously against the Wire Act. But using 'reason' to figure out the world is a hopeless act of optimism. |

Whenever I hear about the Wire Act I want to see The Sting again.

Of course this is all about bookmaking, for which there is a massive amount of precedent w/r/t prosecution. (And whatever the Wire Act may NOT cover, it was specifically set up to prosecute bookmakers.)
The day someone from PokerStars or Full Tilt is arrested, I'll worry. |

As closely tied to poker as many sportsbooks are (WPEX, Mansion, some Prima skins, and Paradise), I still think this is a pretty significant blow. If the DOJ starts seizing funds, it's not like they're only taking money from the sportsbook side of things.

[/ QUOTE ] Which reminds me that the poker sites are very careful to distinguish the 'play for free' side of their business from the 'pay for real money' side. They try very hard to only advertise the '.net' URL which claims practicing poker for free from the '.com' URL which is online poker. To the point I've seen black-tape over a hat that had the '.com' URL on it in the WSOP. I predict Paradise, if it is any kind of trouble, would get purchased or spun off to it's own entity very shortly. |
