Ozi, did you c/call the flop because you feared a bigger pair/straight/set, or were you slowplaying two pair? I don't quite get it.

This seems like flop check raise and turn bet, call down.

I was slowplaying the 2 pair. Figured that against a maniac this hand is going to the turn regardless of what I do so I could make my move there on a nice card.

I think against even a maniac, that hand needs to be protected more. Villain could easily have an A or K, putting four to a straight. If you are ahead (which most likely are), his aggro tendencies should see him call the flop check raise and call down regardless.

Grunch:

Initially i thought "why not bet the flop" but i like the play of waiting for the turn to check/raise.

My question is, why not bet the river?

I don't really mind waiting on the turn to pop the villain maniac in this hand.

1. It's an incredibly drawy board, and 1 card can beat you here. Especially if a diamond falls on the turn.
2. It's heads up. There's no protecting hands heads-up against maniacs.

The only downside to the flop check is it might get checked through and you might have to bet out on the turn... but it is a maniac so you're pretty sure he'll bet just about anything.

Betting the flop and the river are both good options. I would rather bet the turn, call the raise and let him fire into me on the river. This may be a weak line, but I get funny about 3betting the turn with a hand like two pair...

I'm going to town on the flop. A flop check-call followed by a turn check-raise is a pretty strong move and will usually slow down even a maniac. Obviously it didn't slow this guy down though.

The main thing is I can't fathom why you check-called the river. If you thought you were behind, then don't cap the turn. If you thought capping the turn was +EV, then lead the river. The turn/river play seem to be inconsistent.

I don't see how this can be a good idea. I would like a c/r on this flop. The only realistic hand that we're behind is AK so we have to figure that we have the best of it, but if an A,K or 9 comes on the turn after you let the maniac off the hook on the flop you're going to have to play defense.

Since we have a decent amount of certainty that the maniac will bet the flop, I'm sticking with a c/r. If we weren't sure that he would bet I'd bet out. Slowplaying a good hand when we have a decent chance of being outdrawn seems like poor planning.
