Default why isn\'t Allen Cunningham an ftp \"name player\"?

he's listed as one of the "friends" of ftp (lesser known players, I guess). it seems like someone with his results and is pretty much a name player now among anyone who watches televised poker would get a little more recognition. and as long as I can remember seeing him on tv he's always worn the full tilt brand.

does he not want to be famous or something?

he won a bracelet and a circuit ring and made the main event final table THIS YEAR. I don't get it.

Like Phil Ivey and Chip Reese he doesn't seem to have a desire to be famous and in the public eye.

However, he does have 4 bracelets and is considered one of the top players in the world by many pros so I wouldn't be
shocked if he was "promoted" to a "name player" after the final table airs.

I might be wrong, but I think the status of various pros (friend/team member) on FTP is a function of the business arrangement the site has with the player, not how well known they are per se.

Very likely considering a person or two who's on the Team compared to who's a friend.

OTOH, and this may be where the question is coming from, Mike Matusow got "promoted" to the A-Team after his FT aired last year and the TOC win. He was only at Friend status before then, and not in the commercials/ads.

On a sidenote, I don't see him listed on the website, but I caught John Cernuto in red on there today...

gilbert,

I'd assume they haven't made him an offer he's interested in taking. What's not to get?

it might have to do if they are exclusive to ftp, or if they can play on other sites.

Gavin Smith was talking about this on L@TB

Basiclly they dont really have a contract. Players just "choose" to wear apparel and play there. I guess they get paid on a one time basis, every time they wear their stuff.

He talks about it at the very start of "the circuit vs. L@TB" if anyone wants to give a good answer.

I read in at FTP article that the "Friends of Full Tilt" are players that they think have "potential" to one day be a poker superstar. So if one of the "friends" reaches that level then they'll be promoted to an "elite team member." Of course, I don't know how much of that is BS, but if it's true, that's pretty stupid. Clonie Gowen one of the most elite players in the world, and Allen Cunningham just has some "potential"? I think it's possible that it has to do more with who they think is the most marketable. Allen Cunningham never gets the recognition he deserves, but maybe he will now. During the main event, I remember ESPN saying after Humberto Brenes got knocked out, that "The last poker pro, Humberto Brenes, has just been knocked out of the main event." Gah. I've always loved Allen and thought he was underrated.
