Default when to use the semi-bluff

Just wondering what are the best situatins to use a semi bluff?
I used some here towards the end of a MTT SNG:
http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...page=&vc=1

but I'm wondering if it could also be used more efectively at the beginning of a tournament. Perhaps of a decent buy-in tournament, where players are less likely to want to bust out so soon.

I guess you have to figure that an opponent wn't want to go bust with TP ?

Also, there are different boards to semi-bluff at:
(1) where you have overcards and a flush/open ended straight draw (14-15 outs)
(2) flush draw (9)
etc.

When you have a draw and you think you have FE.

Absolutely. In fact, it's almost mandatory if you want to go deep.

This is not a semi-bluff - it's a value bet. Figure out what betting line is most likely to get some chips from your opponent in the pot and then push. You do not need a whole lot of FE to make it ++EV. EVen calling someone else's push is +EV here.

(2) flush draw

And straight draw. And a pair with a backdoor draw. And a gutshot with overs...

Really?

So it's only a semi-bluff if you're behind? I know this is symantics of labeling a "bet" but I've NEVER heard of value betting a non-made hand.

Well - it's not a made hand, is it? But you DO raise it - is it a semi-bluff or a value bet?
