Stars 33 KJs near the bubble
Hey guys been a long time limit player just starting to focus on my NL tournament game. So be nice.
Maybe this hand is easy but I've been thinking about it from most any angle. $33 tournament at Stars 75 players remain (63 ITM) Villain had been calling some big bets but rarely raising preflop. He seems to play pretty straightforward except for making some loose calls of all-ins. PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t600 (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) BB (t10540) UTG (t2973) UTG+1 (t5196) MP1 (t3824) MP2 (t9460) MP3 (t8566) Hero (t9385) Button (t19220) SB (t2594) Preflop: Hero is CO with J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. 5 folds, Hero raises to t2400, Button raises to t5400, 2 folds, Hero? Can I get away from this pot? If not do I push? |

Re: Stars 33 KJs near the bubble
I think you are just about deep enough to fold.

Re: Stars 33 KJs near the bubble
stupid 4BB open raise if you made it 3BB maybe he makes it 4200 or something where you could pull a SnG. Since you say you are a limit player SnG=Stop and go where you call a bet OOP and than shove the flop. I would shove any flop where you have a pair/flushdraw/straightdraw(gutshot or OESD). On those flops open shove since you will have about 75% of pot if he RR to a smaller amount in your stack.
As played you said he rarely raised PF so I fold quickly. |

I don't think w/ your stack you should be making anything more than 3XBB....4X is just a bit much...as played muck it after the raise.

Re: Stars 33 KJs near the bubble
If there's an ante, isn't your M around 5? If so, then it's push or fold time. You toss in 1/4 of your stack and plan a fold to a raise, then you shouldn't have raised...just read that here somewhere. So between limp, fold or push, I push.

Re: Stars 33 KJs near the bubble
M is actually ~7 (going by standard Stars structure) however M shouldn't be the only factor in this hand, and OP's decision making process.
Not that I would hate a push here I just believe based on OP's read of the situation you can easily accomplish the same goal w/ a standard raise. - JA |

Re: Stars 33 KJs near the bubble
Shaun, if you make it 1800 and a tight guy makes it 4200, you'd actually call and shove a lot of flops???

Fold this, and next time open for 1600 or so and still fold when he reraises you.

Re: Stars 33 KJs near the bubble
Thanks for the input guys.
I considered the stopn'go. I made the 4x raise to compensate for the ante's increase of the size of the pot. I will slow it down next time. I think 3x and fold would have been the best. |
