Gatorade baths
Speaking of sports traditions that need to be done away with, does it seem to anyone else that giving a gatorade bath to a feeble old man in freezing temperatures is pretty dangerous? I feel like it's only a matter of time before one of these poor bastards ends up in the hospital with pneumonia or dead because of this tired, inane tradition. Thoughts?

What's next, a thread on rushing the court in a college basketball game?

Re: Gatorade baths
I have no problem with Gatorade baths except this...it seems coaches get them for their teams achieving the most inane things. The winner of the 2005 Mobile Alabama Bowl received a Gatorade bath. Many NFL Division winners received Gatorade baths. Come on -- it's only cool if you keep it SPECIAL...and that means reserving it for, you know, real championships.

Re: Gatorade baths
I love a good Gatorade bath. This is an awesome tradition and it never gets old to me. I'm seeing an entire team get behind their coach and show support and appreciation for a job well done. It's pretty touching, and often very funny when they give him a good soaking.

Re: Gatorade baths
My college bball team dumped gatorade on a group of the coaching staff after we won a tourney we were ranked something ungodly (like #30 out of #32) in. When we won a later tourney, the coach had the entire coaching team dump gatorade on us.
From that point of view I say it should go away. Our jerseys smelled like lemon B.O. after that. |
