played at Casino Arizona last night
After studying S&M SSH, learned what hands to play, and spent a couple months learning flop section. Thought my game would be better then it used to be at casino's. there was at least ten 3-6 tables. I noticed everybody would just give there name at desk with out even checking out what tables are good to sit at, before thats what I would do till I read its all about location the right table to play at. Since every 3-6 table seemed to have at least three or four players with at least $250 or more, I just gave my name at the desk.
I get seated 4:26pm, played couple hands before I start playing S&M hands. 4:50pm not one playable hand came till 5:50pm pocket jacks in 3mp, everybody limp in to me I raised and fold around, I pick up small pot. 1hrs 20 mins later 7:10pm I'm in ep3 with Qs-Js I raise everybody folds. 7:35pm I get K-K in BB I limp in fearing everybody would fold, because they all new i was playing tight. Me and 4 players see the flop of KTJ all spades, I bet it went raise, reraise, fold, and I called turn was 9d I bet, no one raised preflop so unless some one had a low card flush I thought I'd reprasent the nuts so mp2 folded, lp reraised and butten calls, rver was 3of spade so I checked lp raises and BTN reraised so I folded I was sure I was beat infact I had a feeling at flop, but I was trying for a boat. lp had nuts mp had J-J. Well it was like this all night, till I started playing cards like suited cards like Q-7, A-6 off suite and with bad hands like that I finally broke even at 1m and went home. Well no real Question just that when playing by the book as a new student of learning to play the right way, It always seems to be just like last night unless I loosen up and play -EV hands then I seem to hit cards. |

Re: played at Casino Arizona last night
3-6 is a tricky game, because it is low limit, many people will call you down with any piece of the flop. There is almost no way to protect your hand, most people will not fold to any bet because usually the size of the pot justifies a call anyways. Play your good hands as well as suited aces and or connectors depending on how rich you are (after you show down a few of these you will get paid on your big hands too) Just know when to get out when you have no draw and/or you know you are beat.
Lots of people will play Kx or Ax, so only play those with a decent kicker and you should be able to out kick at showdown.. Good Luck and happy hunting. |

You've also become a Member of the No Luck Club. Welcome. Many books tell you to only play premium hands at loose tables. If you're luck is a little worse than usual, you'll only get 2 or 3 premium hands all night and get blinded down.

[/ QUOTE ] I suggest you read Getting Started in Hold'em by Ed Miller, followed by Small Stakes Hold'em. Neither books recommend you play "only premium hands" when playing against loose, passive, and predictable opponents like you will find in the CAZ 3/6 limit games. And if you did read either book, then you must have a significant misunderstanding of applying optimal pre and post flop strategy. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

Re: played at Casino Arizona last night
My mistake I ment I play chart in the book S&M say to play when 6to8 players are in the pot, by no means is this only premium hands. It for low limit loose games. beleave me I would played any of those hands in the book, just was'nt getting them. I'd like to think it was just a bad run of cards last night at casino arizona because the only pocket pair I got was K-K, J-J twice, 9-9, and some low pairs.

Re: played at Casino Arizona last night
I can't believe you had that few playable hands. You never got dealt 22, 33, 64s, 35s, 85s, T7s, etc, in late/middle position? Usually at low limit you can play those hands for one or two bets with six or more players. You miss the flop you fold, you have a draw you stick, you hit a huge hand you bet it and they all call. You want to see flops cheap, and eventually you'll hit big hands.

Re: played at Casino Arizona last night
Do you look for table thats loose pasive and ask to put you on the board for that table? or just go to any table they call you to sit at.

[/ QUOTE ] You've got to go where you are sent but if you don't like it you can ask for a table change. You can't be specific about what table you want. I don't play the 3-6 but I'd expect that they are all pretty much the same and if, by some weird circumstance, you are at a 'bad' 3-6 game just wait a half-hour and it should be good. As others have stated I think you were playing way too tight. I think you said in your OP that you'd gone ~1.5 hrs or so between playing hands? I've gone longer than that but it's very rare in a loose game. TT's recommendations sound good and I'd comment further that you aren't going to learn just by studying a book, you've got to get a lot of hours playing. Don't be discouraged by what happens in the short term. |

I suggest you befriend one of the 2+2'ers in the small stakes forum, or someone who happens to also play at Casino AZ and has already come up through the ranks after reading Small Stakes Hold'em. A support system of friends to bounce hands off of really helps out a lot. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |
