Has it been about 16 hours since you wokeup? It can be pretty difficult to fall asleep if you're not on some sort of natural cycle. Resorting to alcohol is worthless because you aren't getting restful sleep cycles when the alcohol is in your system and you might as well just stay awake. You haven't tried everything until you've tried reading The Republic of Plato...if this doesn't work, fire up an indica strain of marijuana.

one trick is to relax your whole body starting from your toes. once they feel relaxed, move to your feet, and so on. this works sometimes.

another trick is to lay on your back and put your hands on your stomach and breath deeply with your stomach while putting just a little resistence on it with your hands.

another is to make your mind wander at a racing speed from one image/thought to the next. you shouldn't spend more than a split second on each thing. this will get your mind into that sleep mode.

and finally the tried and true method is to rub one out.

I try to breath slower and deeper. Breath in, hold it for a few seconds, breath out. Then I imagine myself walking on my favourite beach.
Go as far as possible into detail, once you can feel the sand between your toes you're probably dreaming already.

Works like a bomb for me.
