a quick question about \"keeping the pot small\"
In DS's TPFAP he has a section entitled "keeping the pot small". Therein, he makes a rather cryptic remark in an otherwise straightforward paragraph. I quote:
"An extra raise by you makes the pot bigger, which in turn forces everyone to stay in longer. You might have to take cards off that you would not have had if the pot had been smaller. This increases your volatility" (p.46). Maybe I'm just simple, but what in god's name does the bolded text mean? Thanks in advance for clarification. |

Re: a quick question about \"keeping the pot small\"
Alot of TPFAP is geared towards limit tournaments and I think this statement is mostly talking about limit too. Say you raise or reraise either before the flop or on the flop (thus bloating the pot), because of pot odds you may be forced to call a bet on the next street with just bottom pair or a gutshot straight draw whereas you would have folded if the pot was smaller.

Yup. bmxreed36 is right.
It makes no sense if you're thinking NL. |
