New to the state, wondering how things are here. Found some casinos in Black Hawk that are not to far from me. Is it worth it to log 20-30 hours over weekend? What limits/games are available here. I'm most interested in lowish stuff to start out (4-8, 5-10ish). Am I going to run into any silly state laws (no-cap games, spread limits, etc.)?
If anyone has been there, how touristy are the games? Am I going to run into bad tables around 5-10 or 10-20? Any info is really appreciated. |

Max bet in Co casinos was $5 last time I knew. You will find lots of 5/5 Limit holdem and $5 bj games.
And btw, if you're worried about 5/10 being tough, you probably aren't ready to play that "high". |

$5-$5? uhg... Can anyone else confirm this?
Maybe it was my fault if I made myself sound like a donk. I played live for about 3 years through college playing between 5-10 and 10-20. Since then, I've played mostly online at 3-6 to 5-10, and 100 and 200 NL. I'm would be comfortable playing higher games, I just don't want to move around my online bankroll too much to try these games out. |

In Cripple Creek, it is mostly 2-5 spread limit.
They also have 50+5 tournaments most days. |

As others have said, Colorado has a $5 maximum bet. The games you will find in Blackhawk, Central City and Cripple Creek will mostly be either $5-$5 holdem (two $5 blinds and $5 bets and raises on all rounds), and $2-5 spread limit ($2 single blind, usually). $5-$5 games are usually LAG often capped preflop (six bets, or $30), $2-5 games are usually loose passive. Rake + bad-beat drop + tips are pretty bad, but games are loose enough to be somewhat profitable. If you want to play higher, there are some "clubs" in Denver. I'm not currently playing in any, so I can't help you, but if you ask around at the tables in Blackhawk, you can probably get some info. Another alternative is New Mexico Indian casinos, but you need to go to Santa Fe or Albuquerque area, so it's not close.
As for clubs, I'm not aware of any recent raids, but that is always a risk in illegal games. To the best of my knowledge, it is not illegal for the players, but you will probably lose any chips in play if a club is raided. Social gambling, including poker, is legal in Colorado, as long as no rake, time, etc. is taken and the players have a social realationship, so home with no rake should have no problems. |

the thing i find funny about the $5 max bet in colorado is that they implemented that to make people lose less money, ie. to prevent too much gambling.
The thing is though, when u cap the bets at $5, the only people who will go to the casino are the lowrollers. The very people who shouldnt be gambling aay their money. The wealthy higher rollers wont go. So this rule has only made sure that the only people gambling there are the oonly ones who shouldnt be |

Colorado poker is a $5 max bet. Don't bother going as the play is sick. There are tourneys, but the blind structures are quick. You should find some home games. The clubs are being raided. Go to the bar poker games and talk to the dealers. They deal in the clubs and for home games, too.

Blackhawk and Central City are about 45-60 min. (depending on what part of city your are coming from) west of Denver. The two towns are adjacent to each other. There are more casinos and poker rooms in Blackhawk. A partial list of those with poker rooms: Ameristar, Golden Gates, The Lodge, Gilpin, Fortune Valley, Colorado Central Station.
Cripple Creek is at least a two hour drive from Denver, and is actually closer to Colorado Springs, on the West side of Pikes Peak. Midnight Rose has a nice poker room there. |
