Moving up question
I have played around 8k hands at $50NL and have done pretty well. I now have 20buyins for $100NL and have decided to try to move up. I played a short session during lunch today and ended up losing about $100 due to running into set over set on my 6th hand of the day. Losing the hand didn't bother me too much, but it did make me wonder how much of your BR should be risked when trying to move up.
I would appreciate it if some people that have experience moving up would let me know how much I should allow myself to lose before moving back to $50NL to rebuild. |

Re: Moving up question
Take shots and if you lose a few buyins and it hambers your BR/confidence, move back down. Rinse wash repeat until you run well and are able to move up for good.

Re: Moving up question
I usually will take 3-5 buyins for a move up.

Re: Moving up question
yeah i was thinking 3-4 buyins, but i curious as to what others think. even though i dropped a buyin really fast it was encouraging to see that the players at $100NL didnt seem any better than those at $50NL.

Re: Moving up question
Not an answer to your question, possibly of interest, possibly not, possibly needs to be overhauled, I'm not sure:
http://poker.wikia.com/wiki/Moving_up Actually I think we took that out of the Beginners FAQ but perhaps someone will have a go at improving it. |

Re: Moving up question
110 buy ins is the only way to roll... right dbitel?
personally i moved up when i had around 40 buyins. usually if you ask this question and you're not overrolled, you're underskilled. You haven't played enough hands to be sure you're a winning player yet. Taking shots is fine, and I would say set a 2-3 buy in stop loss. Through bonuswhoring bankrolls grow much faster than skill levels. |

Re: Moving up question
How and when to move up is solely dependent on your own personal preference. When my bankroll hit $1200 I deposited $600 on FTP and started playing the NL100. I ran well, then not so well, and then well again and eventually that stuck. Now I'm moving up to NL200 and if I run good I'll stay there for good but if I drop a few buy-ins then I'll just go back to NL100 to rebuild for a while.

Re: Moving up question
Move up as fast as possible. More buyins are needed for each sucessive level. 20 for 200NL, 16-18 for 100NL, etc. Just play well and only move up when you know if you can beat it.
