Brushes with greatness

Talking to an old buddy last night, and he reminded me of the time we met John Lennon in 1977. We were 15 and saw him in the city walking around like a mere mortal. I still have his autograph.

I also met Joe Dimaggio at the Concorde Hotel in upstate NY when I was 8, which was pretty cool too. My mom tossed his autograph out when she was cleaning my room. Booooo.

Anyone able to come close to topping these two Icons?

I sat behind Maya Angelou on a plane once. She blocked my view of the movie. I am 6'2".

UMM....I met Don Mattingly when I was 13 and I met Dave Matthews a couple of years ago. Other than that, I have met a lot of smaller stars (Chris Martin, Michelle Branch, etc.) I used to work at a music theater, so I got to meet a lot of the acts.

I met Tiki Barber at work, which is cool because I'm a huge Giants fan. When I told him I worked in IT he said "A man after my own heart, I was an IS major at Virginia"

This was right after Parachutes came out, so he wasn't big yet as he was playing at the crappy little venue where I worked.

I've met Walter Payton, Ryne Sandberg, David Copperfield, Chris Rock, Oprah, Dennis Hastert, and Antonio Davis (and his wife).

No real interesting stories on any, though.

A few:

-Shared an elevator with Anna Paquin at a Columbia dorm
-Saw Julia Stiles in the gym while playing basketball
-Rip Hamilton at Casino Windsor
-Yo-Yo Ma at a Whole Foods Market in Boston 6 years ago. My mom went up to ask him if it was him. I think she was in shock.
-Darko Milicic at the John Jay Gym June 2003. This was before the draft, when everyone thought he was going to be amazing. He signed my Ben Wallace jersey (no Darko jerseys yet, closest thing to it).

And finally...
-Ate at Fire and Ice on Boylston in Boston 3 years ago with entire fraternity. When we were leaving, we saw Scottie Pippen at the bar, chillin by himself. He was in town for Bulls@Celtics. This was his last season in the L. We got a group picture.
